Description

This project characterizes a novel neural circuit in the pons important for the state-dependent control of breathing at frequencies not achievable by known mechanisms of respiratory rhythm generation. Insights gained from these studies will significantly expand our basic scientific understanding of respiratory control with potential implications for pathologies involving links between breathing and emotions such as panic disorders.
