Description
The project aims to investigate the relationships between hip anatomy, biomechanics, and image-based measurements of cartilage and labrum ultrastructure using quantitative MRI (qMRI) in patients with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). The study will incorporate qMRI into existing imaging workflows and leverage statistical shape models (SSM) and finite element (FE) modeling data to study form-function relationships. The research hypothesizes that regions of greater bone deformity and elevated stress and strain will coincide with decreased proteoglycan content and collagen organization, providing insights into mechanisms underlying chondrolabral damage and hip osteoarthritis.
