Description
This project investigates the role of the TP53 tumor suppressor gene, particularly the Pro47Ser (S47) polymorphism, in liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among African Americans. The S47 variant impairs p53 tumor suppressor functions, including ferroptosis induction, leading to increased iron accumulation and risk of liver fibrosis and cancer. The research aims to determine the impact of the S47 variant on HCC development using genetically engineered mouse models and cell lines, and to identify personalized therapeutic approaches for S47 individuals.
