Description

Researchers aim to understand the mechanisms behind progressive and irreversible lung damage in cystic fibrosis (CF). The study involves developing a CF mouse model of chronic inflammation to investigate how inflammatory monocytes contribute to lung tissue remodeling. The research hypothesizes that chronic exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) increases recruitment of inflammatory monocytes, which cause tissue damage while failing to fight infection, initiated by loss of CFTR function in hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells.
