Description
The overarching goal of this research is to improve understanding of the biopsychosocial factors impacting cognitive outcomes among middle-aged and older Black adults. The study, known as BA-UMAP, will establish and remotely assess a cohort of 600 Black adults aged 55+ to identify sociocultural, behavioral, environmental, and biological factors influencing cognitive functioning and decline. It involves online questionnaires, annual remote cognitive assessments via computer and mobile devices, remote collection of saliva and urine samples at baseline and Year 4, and digital media platforms for participant outreach and engagement. Objectives include evaluating cognitive functioning, identifying social, behavioral, and environmental factors, and examining biological risk factors and biomarkers.
