The award supports research on the cardioprotective role of circulating prohibitin-1 during sepsis, aiming to understand its mechanisms and potential as a therapeutic target and biomarker to treat septic cardiomyopathy.
Description
This project aims to elucidate the role of circulating prohibitin-1 in protecting the heart during sepsis and explore its potential as a therapeutic target and biomarker. The research will investigate the mechanisms by which circulating PHB1 mediates cardioprotection during sepsis, including its secretion controlled by Nrf2 in hepatocytes, its cardio-protective effects, and its validation as a predictive biomarker of morbidity and mortality in sepsis patients.
