A NIH grant awarded to Dr. Helen Byakwaga to study survival after diagnosis of HIV-related Kaposi Sarcoma in East Africa, aiming to reduce mortality through research and predictive modeling.
Description
This project aims to support the career development of Dr. Helen Byakwaga in acquiring the knowledge and skills to become an independent investigator in clinical and translational HIV-associated cancer research, focusing on reducing mortality from Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) among HIV-infected individuals in East Africa. The project will determine the excess risk of mortality associated with KS, identify biological determinants of mortality, and develop a predictive model for mortality among HIV-related KS patients.
