The award supports a study using neuroimaging to investigate brain fluid clearance and amyloid-β dynamics following traumatic brain injury, aiming to understand implications for Alzheimer's Disease risk and recovery.

Description

This project focuses on brain cerebrospinal/interstitial fluid systems essential for clearing the brain of waste and toxins, including the glymphatic system, as important to the pathophysiology of both Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Alzheimer's Disease (AD). It aims to use neuroimaging to measure brain fluid clearance after TBI, with preliminary results indicating significant reduction in clearance post-injury. The study will also measure brain amyloid-β (Aβ) levels as a hallmark feature of AD, to understand the relationship between brain fluid clearance and Aβ deposition over time.
