Research grant to study mechanisms and structures of flavonoid-producing dioxygenase enzymes to support enzyme engineering and biosynthesis for health research.

Description

The research aims to enhance understanding of alpha ketoglutarate-dependent dioxygenases, focusing on enzymes Flavanone Synthase 1 (FLS1) and Flavanone 3-Hydroxylase (F3H). These enzymes produce the medically significant compounds quercetin and trans-taxifolin, respectively. The project will employ high-resolution mass spectrometry, isotope labeling, and X-ray crystallography to elucidate enzyme mechanisms and structures, supporting enzyme engineering and biosynthesis of flavonoids for health research.
