Award for research on genes regulating natural antibody-producing B-1 cells to understand autoimmunity and develop new therapies.
Description
This project aims to identify novel genes that regulate the development and/or maintenance of B-1 cells that produce natural IgM antibodies, which are important for early defense against infections and reducing autoimmune disease incidence. The research involves large-scale phenotypic screening of knockout mice to understand mechanisms of autoimmunity and identify human B-1 cell equivalents, potentially leading to new therapeutic targets and gene signatures.
