Description

The proposed research will harmonize many databases of air pollution sources and will develop novel spatial statistical models to determine which components of air pollution are most relevant for incidence and mortality of breast and lung cancers as well as the geographic areas where the relationship is the strongest. State-of-the-art causal inference techniques will then be applied to test potential mitigation strategies for reducing air pollution impacts on cancer. This research will inform air pollution policy and identify specific geographic areas most affected by air pollution for breast and lung cancers, deepening our understanding of this prominent public health problem and providing tangible evidence for future interventions.
