Description
The objective of this research is to develop, user-test, and pilot a behavioral economics mobile health digital tool aimed at improving adherence to non-pharmacologic strategies for behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). The intervention targets family care partners of people living with dementia, with the goal of informing long-term strategies for reducing BPSD and caregiver burden. The study will leverage behavioral economics principles combined with mobile health technology to create, test, and pilot a digital tool. The primary outcome will be adherence to non-pharmacologic strategies, with secondary outcomes including changes in BPSD, caregiver burden, and medication prescriptions. The project includes stakeholder interviews, literature review, design-thinking workshops, and user testing with dyads of persons with dementia and their care partners. The intervention will be tested in a 6-month pilot study within the NYU Langone Health system.
