NIH grant awarded to University of Nevada Las Vegas to develop bile salt analogs for preventing Clostridium difficile infection through modulation of bile salt metabolism.

Description

This project aims to develop a prophylactic approach against Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) by modulating bile salt metabolism. The research focuses on synthesizing and testing heterobicyclic non-hydrolysable bile salts (NHBS) as anti-germinants to prevent CDI. The project builds on five foundational discoveries, including the stability of NHBS in the gut microbiome and their efficacy in protecting mice from CDI.
