Description

This project hypothesizes that increased serum advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), activating receptors for AGEs (RAGE), are a principal mechanism driving tendon complications in diabetes. The research aims to delineate the role of serum AGEs and RAGE activation in promoting tendon extracellular matrix (ECM) disorganization and biomechanical impairment, using mouse models and advanced imaging techniques such as ultrasound and MRI. The goal is to develop new treatment strategies to improve tendon function and reduce the clinical and economic burden of diabetic tendon complications.
