Description

This project aims to establish the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for a multi-site efficacy trial at five Level 1 Trauma Centers, including Duke Medical Center, Dell Medical School, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, University of Kentucky Medical Center, and Massachusetts General Hospital. The trial focuses on evaluating the efficacy of the Toolkit for Optimal Recovery after Injury (TOR), a mind-body intervention designed to improve physical function and reduce pain, depression, and post-traumatic stress among orthopedic trauma patients. The project builds on a successful NCCIH-funded feasibility trial (R01AT010462) and involves finalizing study protocols, training clinicians, and conducting a randomized controlled trial (RCT) over five years. The primary outcome is physical function, with secondary outcomes including pain intensity, depression, and post-traumatic stress. The study hypothesizes that TOR will be more effective than usual care in improving these outcomes.
