The award funds research using advanced fMRI methods to study genetic influences on personalized brain networks, aiming to understand psychiatric risks and improve targeted treatments.
Description
This project applies a recent methodological breakthrough in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate genetic contributions to the organization of human brain networks, such as central executive networks, whose functions are critical to a variety of clinical and developmental outcomes. Identifying genetic loci that influence the development of personalized functional brain networks and contribute to psychiatric risk will lead to novel mechanistic insights into network dysfunction in mental illnesses, improved classification of at-risk individuals, and the potential for targeted neuromodulation guided by individualized neurogenetics.
