NIH research award to investigate how cholinergic signaling may regulate inflammation in pancreatic islets and influence type 1 diabetes progression.

### Description

The project investigates whether local cholinergic innervation suppresses islet macrophage activation and protects pancreatic islets from autoimmune initiation in type 1 diabetes. It will study cholinergic neuron–macrophage interactions and test whether inhibiting local cholinergic neurons accelerates diabetes incidence in a mouse model.
