A Veterans Affairs funded project to improve pulmonary rehabilitation outcomes for Veterans with COPD by evaluating a 12-week inclined walking exercise program compared to standard exercise, aiming to improve respiratory function and quality of life.

Description

This project aims to provide an advancement in exercise outcomes for COPD patients by determining the effect of a pulmonary rehabilitation program that uses inclined walking. The hypothesis is that inclined walking will reduce respiratory rate, dynamic hyperinflation, and dyspnea, thereby improving exercise capacity and quality of life for these patients. The study will compare inclined versus standard exercise in moderate to severe COPD patients from the Omaha VAMC.
