This award supports research to understand how the LKB1 metabolic pathway in oligodendrocytes supports axon stability, aiming to uncover mechanisms that could lead to new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases.

Description

Axon degeneration is a hallmark of many neurodegenerative diseases. We discovered that metabolism regulated by the Liver kinase B1 (LKB1) pathway in oligodendrocytes plays a central role for the trophic support of axons. Here we will study the molecular mechanisms as to how glial LKB1 promotes axon stability.
