NIH grant awarded to Emory University to investigate the role of GDF15 in cardiac cachexia and heart failure, using genetic models and clinical studies to inform future therapies.

Description

This project aims to study the role of growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15), a cytokine that predicts cardiovascular events and death, in cardiac cachexia and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) progression. The study will use genetic mouse models of GDF15 and GFRAL knock-out, RNA sequencing, and a clinical pilot in heart failure patients to elucidate mechanisms and identify potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets.
