This NIH-funded project investigates chromosome organization during meiosis to understand causes of birth defects and spontaneous abortions, using yeast and zebrafish models.

Description

The project aims to understand how chromosome organization in the nucleus contributes to correct pairing, synapsis, and recombination during meiosis I prophase, and how errors in these processes lead to abnormalities. The research uses model organisms, budding yeast and zebrafish, to study the 3D configuration of chromosomes and the mechanisms of homolog pairing.
