A 4-year NIH-funded project led by University of Virginia to develop advanced fluorescent indicators for imaging synaptic zinc in the brain, focusing on auditory cortical processing and neurological disease implications.
Description
This interdisciplinary multi-PI 4-year R01 project aims to develop a new generation of genetically encoded Zn2+ indicators (GEZIs) to image synaptic Zn2+ secretion in the brain in vivo and integrate these with ZnT3 cKO mice to study Zn2+ dynamics in cortical sound processing. The project will enable imaging of synaptically released Zn2+ in awake behaving animals and improve understanding of synaptic Zn2+ roles in cortical information processing and neurological disorders.
