Description
The proposed studies aim to develop mechanism-centered diagnostics and interventions for pregnancy complications due to prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and other etiologies. The research aligns with the strategic plan of the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) to diagnose and treat the consequences of alcohol use and misuse, including Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). The project tests hypotheses that cytokines and extracellular miRNAs control fetal growth in response to PAE and can be manipulated to overcome fetal growth restriction (FGR).
