Award for research on the neurobiology of sensory preconditioning to understand memory formation and its implications for memory disorders, funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences.
Description
This project examines how a simple nervous system encodes model-based memories constructed on inferred values (sensory preconditioning) to add knowledge for treatment of memory disorders. It uses behavioral and functional imaging techniques combined with neuronal and genetic manipulations, including optogenetics, to define the rules and dynamics of sensory preconditioning and test dopamine modulation's role.
