Research grant investigating Urotensin II's role in kidney injury in growth-restricted infants using a porcine model to find therapeutic targets.

Description

This project investigates the role of Urotensin II (UII), a potent vasoactive peptide, in contributing to renal insufficiency in growth-restricted newborns. UII stimulates peripheral sympathoexcitation, which triggers kidney injury in neonates. The study will use a preclinical porcine model of naturally-occurring human asymmetric IUGR to elucidate the mechanisms involved and identify potential therapeutic targets.
