Description

This project aims to define the mechanisms by which IGFBP1, a liver-derived hormone, drives bone loss and muscle wasting in colorectal cancer (CRC). The research hypothesizes that elevated IGFBP1 exacerbates CRC-induced cachexia by triggering events leading to musculoskeletal wasting. The study will explore how IGFBP1 signals through ITGB1 to promote osteoclastogenesis and bone loss, and how high IGFBP1 levels contribute to muscle atrophy. Additionally, the role of the liver microenvironment in CRC cachexia will be investigated, focusing on gene expression changes related to IGFBP1 and other soluble factors.
