Research grant awarded to study the molecular mechanisms of bilirubin's protective effects on liver and kidney diseases via nuclear receptor activation.

Description

This project investigates how bilirubin, a heme metabolite, exerts protective effects against diabetic and chronic kidney diseases through activation of Liver Receptor Homolog-1 (LRH-1, NR5A2). The study aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which bilirubin levels are sensed and how nuclear receptors mediate responses in the liver and kidneys.
