Description

Closed-loop anesthesia delivery (CLAD) systems are an invaluable, but yet unrealized paradigm that can improve second-to-second brain state monitoring of patients during general anesthesia; provide precise computer-controlled anesthetic dosing; and reduce highly prevalent anesthetic side effects such as post-operative cognitive dysfunction. This project aims to develop a non-human primate model for design and testing of CLAD systems for two widely used anesthetics: propofol and dexmedetomidine, combining pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic modeling with modern control theory and artificial intelligence approaches.
