Description

This project focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms of disrupted regeneration and repair of neonatal white matter injury, mediated by formation of a “glial scar” that inhibits normal myelination of the preterm developing human brain after hypoxia-ischemia. The research employs molecular and histopathological approaches to define a novel pathway initiating glial scar formation and tests therapies to block this process, aiming to reduce lifelong disabilities such as cerebral palsy.
