This award funds the Religious Orders Study Core to support research on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including studies on disease progression, risk factors, and precision medicine, facilitating data sharing and collaboration.

Description

The Religious Orders Study (ROS) Core aims to support high-quality research on the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). It facilitates studies on transitions from normal cognition to mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia, risk factors, clinical-pathology correlations, resilience, secular trends, Medicare data linkage, disease mechanisms, precision medicine, and human cell modeling. Since its inception in 1993, the ROS Core has contributed to over 496 publications, with 86% including ROS data. The core supports 401 active participants and conducts annual evaluations and brain autopsies across 15 U.S. locations, collaborating with Data/Stat, Npath, Latino Cores, and the REC. It enables research on clinical and pathological heterogeneity, resilience factors, real-world data analysis, molecular genomic exploration, human cell modeling, and promotes open science through data and biospecimen sharing.
