This NIH-funded project investigates cardiovascular health outcomes and molecular mechanisms in fetal alcohol spectrum disorder using adult patient data and zebrafish models, aiming to understand ethanol-induced heart defects and lifelong cardiac function.

Description

The project aims to decipher cardiovascular health outcomes in adults with FASD, identify molecular mechanisms and biomarkers for ethanol-induced congenital heart defects, and evaluate lifelong cardiac function using a zebrafish model. The study includes a retrospective analysis of adult FASD patients and molecular studies in zebrafish. The project is funded by NIH grant RFA-AA-21-010 and managed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The project duration is from August 10, 2022, to April 30, 2027.
