Research grant investigating mechanisms of thyroid cell death related to ER stress and thyroglobulin secretion defects, with implications for hypothyroidism and thyroid disorders.

Description

This grant concentrates on defective thyroglobulin secretion linked to thyroid cell death, which is connected to a range of very common clinical thyroid disorders. The project aims to investigate the mechanisms of ER stress-dependent and independent thyrocyte death, using animal models such as knock-in mice and heterozygous mutants. It explores the role of ER-associated protein degradation (ERAD), thyroid cell extrusion, and iodination processes in thyroid pathology.
