Description

This study will compare two anticoagulants (apixaban and rivaroxaban) used in the Department of Veterans Affairs to prevent strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation. The trial will enroll about 10,000 VA patients nationally and measure rates of stroke, major bleeding, or death between the two drugs over about 7 years. It is a phase 4, pragmatic, point of care, parallel group, unblinded randomized trial embedded in VA clinical care.
