CORE B – PROTEINS & ASSAYS

This award funds the CORE B – PROTEINS & ASSAYS project at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, focusing on producing proteins and assays related to APOBEC3 enzymes to support cancer research and therapy development.

Description

The project focuses on the APOBEC3 family of enzymes, which are DNA-mutating enzymes implicated in causing mutations in cancer. The program aims to inhibit these proteins to support cancer therapy by reducing mutations that lead to drug resistance and metastasis. Core B – Proteins & Assays will produce enzymes, antibodies, and other proteins necessary for the program's goals, as well as develop and perform assays as a service to project members and collaborators. The core has previously developed methods for producing active A3 enzymes, identified specific antibodies, and created assays to measure enzyme activity. The continuation of this work will involve producing essential proteins and antibodies, performing standardized activity and binding assays, and developing new assays and SOPs to ensure reproducibility across labs. These reagents and assays will facilitate the advancement of research aimed at blocking A3A/B-dependent tumor evolution.
