Description
This project aims to test the safety and feasibility of a probiotic intervention among people with preclinical AD and AD dementia. The study will enroll participants from the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in a randomized double-blind trial of a custom probiotic formulation. Participants with mild AD dementia and preclinical AD (cognitively unimpaired and amyloid positive) will undergo a 24-week intervention or placebo, with evaluations at baseline, weeks 12, 24, 36, and 1 year. The study will assess cognitive function, plasma biomarkers, gut inflammation, intestinal permeability, and bile acid metabolism to understand mechanisms by which gut microbiome impacts AD.
