The award funds research on how exercise influences oligodendrocyte precursor cells to promote white matter repair in vascular dementia, focusing on circadian gene regulation to develop new non-drug therapies.
Description
This study investigates the mechanisms of compensatory oligodendrogenesis (i.e., proliferation and differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells: OPCs) under conditions of vascular dementia. The focus is on the effects of daily exercise on OPC function through the regulation of circadian/diurnal rhythms. The goal is to develop novel non-pharmacological therapeutic approaches for dementia caused by cerebrovascular injury.
