Description
Central pattern generator (CPG) networks control important rhythmic behaviors such as chewing, breathing, and locomotion. This project investigates the cellular and synaptic mechanisms controlling rhythm generation locus in different modulatory states using an in vitro stomatogastric nervous system (STNS) preparation from the crab (Cancer borealis). The goal is to understand how sensory modulation of CPG feedback can alter rhythm generation locus and mechanism, which has implications for treatments of neurological disorders and stroke-related damage affecting CPGs.
