Research grant awarded to study innate immunity in monocytes related to neurodegeneration, focusing on Alzheimer's and HIV-associated disorders, to identify therapeutic targets.

Description

This project studies the disruption of innate immunity responses in monocytes and their contribution to neurodegeneration, focusing on Alzheimer's disease and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. It aims to characterize interferon type I signaling and insulin receptor biology in monocytes from affected patients, determine monocytes' neuroprotective or neuroinflammatory roles using brain organoid models, and assess effects of receptor modulation on monocyte phenotype and neuronal dysfunction.
