The award funds the development and evaluation of HEARTSPOT, a machine learning system designed to assist emergency department clinicians in decision-making for patients with acute coronary syndrome and cognitive impairment by rapidly analyzing medical history and providing real-time summaries.

Description

This project will test a machine learning tool called HEARTSPOT that presents a report to help clinicians make difficult decisions about invasive treatment for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who are cognitively impaired. HEARTSPOT examines each patient's medical history faster and more completely than any human could and presents a summary of its findings to the emergency department clinician in real time.
