The award supports research on SGK1's role in atrial myopathy and atrial fibrillation in HFpEF, aiming to develop a novel SGK1-inhibitory peptide therapy.

Description

This project aims to decipher the molecular mechanisms contributing to atrial fibrillation (AF) in response to heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), focusing on the role of serum glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) in atrial remodeling and AF inducibility. The study involves atrial-specific gene targeting of SGK1 in a mouse model of HFpEF and evaluates a novel SGK1 inhibitory peptide as a potential therapeutic intervention.
