This award funds the Clinical Core project to study early biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias in diverse Florida populations, emphasizing early detection and community engagement.
Description
The Clinical Core aims to investigate the relationship of social and health exposures and comorbidities with early clinical, blood, and imaging biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias (ADRDs). The project expands on previous efforts to engage diverse populations in Florida, focusing on those at increased risk of cognitive impairment, including rural residents, Black/African-American, and Hispanic/Latino individuals. The study involves comprehensive assessments, including MRI, blood biomarkers, amyloid PET, and skin biopsies for synuclein, with a focus on early detection and phenotyping of neurodegenerative conditions.
