Description
More than one million children who are HIV-exposed but uninfected are born to people with HIV every year and have poorer early-life outcomes than their HIV-unexposed peers, including a >2-fold increased risk of growth stunting and significant neurodevelopmental deficits. The causes of adverse health outcomes in children who are HIV-exposed are poorly understood but may be related to changes in the placenta that occur during pregnancy. We will design and use artificial intelligence models and advanced imaging techniques to identify subtle visual changes in the placenta associated with poor neurodevelopmental and growth outcomes in children who are HIV-exposed but uninfected.
