This NIH grant awarded to Emory University supports research on molecular mechanisms of retinal ganglion cell injury in glaucoma, aiming to identify key transcriptional networks and relate findings to human glaucoma.

Description

Using genetic mouse models, this project aims to identify the role of POU6F2 in the response of retinal ganglion cells to glaucoma. The research will define the molecular cascades associated with irreversible early death of ganglion cells, focusing on a transcriptional network in novel RGC subtypes susceptible to glaucomatous insult. The study will relate findings in mice to human glaucoma through collaboration with the NEIGHBORHOOD consortium.
