The award supports research to understand and target mitochondrial biogenesis mechanisms in radiation-resistant prostate cancer to improve radiation therapy outcomes, including testing azithromycin to enhance radiosensitivity.
Description
This project aims to establish the underlying mechanism(s) of mitochondrial biogenesis that contribute to radiation-resistant prostate cancer (RR-PCa) cell survival and metabolism and determine if targeting inherent mitochondria and radiation-acquired mitochondria can overcome RR-PCa. The project seeks to improve radiation therapy efficacy in prostate cancer by targeting mitochondrial biogenesis and redox capacity, using novel therapeutics such as azithromycin.
