The award funds the development and clinical evaluation of a multivalent toxoid vaccine (IBT-V02) targeting recurrent Staphylococcus aureus skin infections, focusing on immune response studies and toxin neutralization to prevent infection recurrence.

Description

This project aims to develop a multivalent toxoid vaccine targeting Staphylococcus aureus skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI), especially methicillin-resistant SA (MRSA). The research includes immunological studies in patients and mouse models to understand immune protection and toxin modulation. The vaccine IBT-V02 has shown efficacy in preclinical models and is scheduled for Phase 1 clinical trials, with a current renewal to evaluate efficacy in a Phase 2/3 trial. The study involves clinical longitudinal monitoring, bacterial isolate characterization, and testing in humanized mouse models to enhance immune responses by neutralizing key toxins.
