Description

The TRAQ to Quit trial aims to address NCI priorities to improve cancer prevention, reduce tobacco smoking, increase smokefree home adoption, and enhance tobacco intervention strategies. It tests an innovative, multi-level intervention approach in pediatric safety-net healthcare systems to reduce morbidity/mortality among smokers and decrease child smoke exposure. The project leverages Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology to merge behavioral interventions with real-time indoor air quality monitoring. It builds on previous trials (KiSS and PFA) to promote long-term abstinence and reduce tobacco smoke exposure in low-income communities. A randomized control trial will compare usual care with an IoT-enhanced intervention among 272 parent/caregiver smokers, with measures at baseline, 8, 12, and 24 weeks post-quit date. The intervention aims to improve knowledge, motivation, and home support for cessation, ultimately increasing long-term abstinence and reducing secondhand smoke exposure.
