Description
The proposed research is relevant to public health because one in four young adults in the U.S. identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), and this growing population experiences large mental health disparities relative to cisgender, heterosexual people. An unprecedented number of state policies targeting LGBT people have become law in recent years, likely exacerbating these disparities. Revealing the needs of at-risk groups—a major priority area for the NIH—will inform interventions to reduce entrenched disparities, promote protective policies, and dramatically improve mental health.
