The award supports research to enhance audiology clinical tools for bilingual adults by studying speech-in-noise recognition and patient-reported outcomes, developing normative data, and improving assessment accuracy.

Description

This project aims to improve the interpretation of hearing-related patient reported outcomes for bilingual adults by collecting both objective and subjective measures of speech-in-noise recognition in monolingual and bilingual active-duty service members. The goal is to identify how bilingualism and age impact speech-in-noise performance, develop normative reference equations based on language and demographic factors, and examine the impact of task instructions on patient-reported outcome measures to ensure accurate clinical assessment for bilingual patients.
