Award for research on neuronal IL-1R1 signaling's protective role in mild closed head injury, focusing on inflammation, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive recovery using mouse models.
Description
This project investigates the role of neuronal IL-1R1 signaling in the context of mild closed head injury (CHI). The study aims to define how IL-1R1 influences inflammation, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive recovery post-injury using neuron-specific mouse models. The overarching hypothesis is that neuronal IL-1R1 signaling is inherently protective, and the research will be conducted through three specific aims: Define the role of the neuronal IL-1R1 pathway in the inflammatory response to CHI; Define the pathway's role in homeostatic synaptic plasticity after CHI; Determine the temporal role in cognitive recovery. The findings could lead to new neuroprotective strategies and therapies targeting IL-1R1 pathways.
