Description

This project aims to reveal the detailed structures of the multiple dynein motors that power ciliary motility, helping to identify key aspects of their assembly and function that could be targeted for novel therapies of cilia dysfunction. Motile cilia are microtubule-based organelles that produce a driving force for cellular locomotion and extracellular fluid flow. In humans, paralyzed or dyskinetic cilia can lead to infertility, chronic respiratory disease, and laterality abnormalities.
